Devonport U3A meeting
When: Wednesday 13th August, 10.00 am
Venue: Harmony Hall, Wynyard Street, Devonport
Kate Stevenson, who is a Forensic Biologist with the Institute of Environmental Science and Research, will be speaking at the next meeting of Devonport U3A. Kate specialises in the examination and interpretation of DNA in crime scenes and this should be a fascinating

Community Network meeting
When: Thursday 14th August, 10:00am - 12 noon
Venue: Devonport Yacht Club, 25 King Edward Pde, Devonport (wheel chair accessible) A quarterly meeting to promote networking among residents and local community groups. Guest speakers will be talking about safety and well-being support services for young people and their caregivers and how services are accessed. All welcome and morning tea provided. Stanley Bay Quiz Nights

Flax-weaving workshop
When: Saturday 23rd August, 10am
Venue: Devonport Community Garden, Mt Cambria Reserve, Devonport
Cost: $80. Bookings email: devonportcommunitygarden@gmail or call 021 949 049 Join our flax-weaving workshop and make your own kete! Flax needs at least 3 days standing time before preparation begins so participants will have to cut and prepare flax and be ready to start weaving at 10am, 23 August. It is important to harvest the flax
during the last quarter phase of the moon, between 17/08 to 21/08. Instructions via email/handout for pruning and preparation will be provided at registration. There is a 15 August cut off for registration, to allow for wet weather, standing time and preparation.

Positive/Negative Photo Shoot

Anne Kennedy in conversation with Iain Sharp
When: Sunday 24th August, 4:00pm
Venue: Michael King Writers' Centre, Summit Rd, Mt Victoria, Devonport
The current Michael King Writers’ Centre writer in residence, Anne
Kennedy, will be in conversation with poet, author and critic Iain Sharp.
Anne Kennedy is a finalist in this year's NZ Post Book Awards for her latest novel The Last Days of the National Costume. Her latest volume of poetry, The Darling North, won the poetry category of the 2013 New Zealand Post Book Awards. As well as fiction and poetry, Anne writes screenplays and teaches screenwriting
