Takarunga Playcentre ERO Report March 2008 (PDF, 911kb)

Child-initiated play is supported by the parents

At Takarunga Playcentre you will find busy children playing in a creative environment, choosing their own activities and working at their own pace. There are so many different choices of play that no two days are the same.

Our Playcentre is licensed and chartered by the Ministry of Education for children from birth to school age and is collectively managed and run by the parents of the children who attend. As parents we are excited about learning alongside our children. We have wonderful resources and the space and environment to fully enjoy them.

At Takarunga Playcentre, children will have the opportunity to:

  • Feel good about themselves
  • Make friends and interact well with others
  • Develop a sense of independence
  • Become question-askers and problem-solvers
  • Develop early math and literacy skills
  • Learn about difference and develop respect for others
  • Develop a love of language
  • Learn about routines and boundaries
  • Be creative and expressive
  • Develop self-care skills
  • Learn about keeping safe
  • Develop physical self-confidence
  • Develop an enthusiasm for learning
  • Develop a love of Te Reo & Tikanga Maori

See what I can do!

Having a great time!

This may be your child's first step into the wider community. Having you to share the experience will give your child the confidence to explore their new environment, to try out new activities and to make new relationships. In time, your child will make contact with other parents who can support and extend them in their activities and understanding.

If you would like to come for a visit, we offer three free sessions for new families. Contact Emma 445 9874 for details.
