Best known as writer of the BAFTA and Emmy award winning TV series “The Young Ones” and “Black Adder“ and for the Musical “We Will Rock You” Ben Elton is also an acclaimed stand up comedian, director, producer and novelist.
The themes in Ben Elton’s black comedy Popcorn are as relevant today as they were when the play was written in 1996. Sexploitation in the film industry still prevails, gun violence is worse than ever and the debate continues over who should take responsibility for the actions of the disaffected.
Bruce Delamitri makes ultra-violent,Tarantino style movies that everybody wants to be in.
Wayne and Scout are teenage psychos with guns – lots of them- which they bought legally. They kill for fun but they think they can pin the blame for their murders on Bruce because they’re huge fans of his movies:
When they interrupt Bruce’s’ night of seduction with playboy centrefold Brooke who is “actually an actress thank you very much” on the night of his Oscar win, things turn very ugly very quickly…
“First rate entertainment, funny, gripping and genuinely thought provoking.” – Daily Telegraph
“This is Ben Elton at his gruesome, satirical best.” – Daily Mail
